Most of the media firms look for the flow of creativity, ability to handle situations and spontaneity. There had been some 10 media firms who came to our college for recruitment. Since most of them were national media they were keen in the ability to deliver the ideas in a spontaneous and creative manner in both English and in the national language. (Though they were not really impressed with the popular Hinglish) But the laid-back situation with these firms is that half of them never get back after confirming the students list. And the offer letters with the rest of them come after a long wait (much longer than what they promised). This wait actually compels at least one-third of the students who sat for the campus placement to pull back. One other issue with the journalism and media industries as such is that there is no big difference in the market place between the UG and PG grads, which does not inspire many students to pursue their higher education. There are many instances of students diverting to other fields as well. Moreover there is a general perception that media firms are not systematic or organized, as it is with many corporates. With more people taking up media as their profession and with lot of media getting the organized status, this state can soon change.
