ELCOT (Electronics Corporation of Tamilnadu) & NASSCOM Chennai , co-ordinated a campaign to take IT to tier 2 cities in Tamilnadu. Six locations (Hosur, Salem, Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore & Tirunelveli) has been identified to spread the benefits of IT uniformly across the state. This campaign was kicked-off with an Industry - Students meet in the deep south twin cities of Tirunelvi - Palayamkottai on 18th and 19th of Jan 2008.

This is an interesting event and a great initiative by the NASSCOM for students like me who have no other ways of staying in touch with the industry. I do wish similar roadshows were conducted in Madurai as well. We are hearing of an IT park here but not made entirely aware of it.
Initiatives like this will go a long way in empowering students.
